Small Group Tour to Castle De Haar from Amsterdam
Come and enjoy one of Holland’s most beautiful fairytale castles!
Kasteel de Haar is only a 45-minute drives from Amsterdam and takes you back in time. We take you into a magical fairy tale to the most impressive medieval castle in the Netherlands! We have about 3,5 hours to explore the historic castle and the park and have lunch in the restaurant or as a picnic on the lawn! Boxed picnic lunches can be pre-ordered with your ticket!
On this small group tour, we will visit the castle, its gardens, and the beautiful, landscaped park around it. Kasteel de Haar is characterized by its rich and extravagant history and the many special stories hidden behind the castle walls. First built in the 13th century it came in the van Zuylen family in the 15th century. The castle found itself in ruins after centuries of wars, and several bad storms, until Baron Etienne van Zuylen, who married Baroness Hélène de Rothschild, took it upon himself to rebuild the castle at the end of the 19th century. He enlists architect Pierre Cuypers for this project, the same architect who designed the Rijksmuseum and central station in Amsterdam!
Kasteel de Haar gets a real revival when his grandson Thierry inherits the castle. In Thierry’s care, it becomes a sought-after hotspot for the international jet set with guests such as Coco Chanel, Brigitte Bardot, and Maria Callas. Baron Thierry passes away in early 2011 and his daughters and grandchildren still come to the “Chatelet” next to the castle for their holidays!
