Discover the Dutch countryside to historic Edam, Volendam, and Marken, see windmills, waterlands, cheese makers, and clog factories up close, and learn about the region’s rich history. Edam-Volendam was known to be one of the most important port cities in the north of the Netherlands. Its geographical situation, facing the sea, led to the development of trade that brought great economic power to the town. In Edam, we will walk through historic sites like the square where the famous Cheese Market used to take place and see the famous church after which we continue to Volendam!
Volendam, a beautiful fishing village of small colorful houses and original shops. We will visit a local cheese producer, where the cheese master will explain how they produce Gouda and Edam cheeses. In the clog factory, you will see how this typical Dutch footwear is made, we will have the time to dress up in traditional clothing and taste the famous Dutch Stroopwafel cookies! We will take the ferry from Volendam harbour to our last stop: Marken. The ferry ride takes approximately 30 minutes and will give you beautiful views of these old fishing towns and the gorgeous coastline as seen from the lake. Marken is a spectacular peninsula located on the IJsselmeer lake. We will wander the small streets of this ancient fishing village! Here there is enough time to see the beautiful old houses and gardens, have a drink or see the shops before we head back to Amsterdam!
